How to get to Bawah Island


If you want to visit these islands, you must be sure to have as much time as you want because it is deep in the South China Sea and away from most another Indonesian archipelago. To reach Anambas by air, you must fly to Tanjung Pinang, the provincial capital of Riau Islands, located on Bintan Island. Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air operate daily flights to Tanjung Pinang from Jakarta and other major cities. From Tanjung Pinang, Xpress Air serves flights to Matak Airport on Matak Island, which is the main airport of the Anambas Islands. The flights are twice a week, operating Monday and Saturday. From Matak airport you still need to board the ship to Tarempa, which is the capital of Anambas Islands District. From the main port in Tarempa to Bawah Island can be reached by using a speedboat for approximately 4 hours with a speed of 15 knots.

If you want to travel by sea, ship Motor Vessel VOC Batavia and Motor Vessel Seven Star Island serves Tanjungpinang-Letung-Tarempa route and vice versa. The ferries leave on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from Tanjung Pinang, with a return journey from Tarempa on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

But, starting in May 2017, you can go directly to Bawah Island from Batam Island by seaplane, and it cut the travel time a little over an hour.
